Innovation and clinical practice: The X Poultry Health Course places advanced diagnostics at the centre of professional debate

nnnn

Leading experts will address in Valencia and Castellรณn the challenges posed by emerging microorganisms such as Salmonella Infantis and Avian Influenza, alongside a range of highly specialised practical workshops.

nnnn

The tenth edition of the course organised by CECAV and Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera has established itself as a leading technical reference, thanks to a programme that prioritises scientific rigour and applied training. Under the theme “Diagnostic and Prevention Tools”, this edition stands out for a faculty that combines academic research with cutting-edge veterinary consultancy. The course will be held on 21 and 22 May 2026 in Valencia and features recognised experts.

Lectures: From data modelling to emerging diseases

nnnn

The theoretical programme is divided into three sessions of high technical density:

nnnn
    n
  • Critical microorganisms and pathologies: The course opens with an analysis of Salmonella Infantis and the use of phages (Si_Phages) by Susana Campoy (UAB), followed by an in-depth review of Intestinal Dilatation Syndrome by Diego Cortรฉs and รlex Gรณmez (Ibertec and UNIZAR).
  • nnnn
  • Biosecurity and Intestinal Health: Gonzalo Abad (ADA) will present data-driven biosecurity systems and risk modelling, while Jesรบs Vicente Dรญaz will explore the relationship between microbiota, omics and animal health.
  • nnnn
  • Major viral challenges: The closing session will focus on Avian Influenza (AI) and Newcastle Disease (NCD), with the participation of Irene Iglesias (CISA-INIA-CSIC) and a round table bringing together representatives from MAPA, the Generalitat Valenciana, and institutions such as IRTA-CRESA.

Practical specialisation: Training in the laboratory and necropsy room

nnnn

The centrepiece of the course lies in its four simultaneous workshops, designed to provide a direct, hands-on learning experience:

nnnn
    n
  1. Necropsy Techniques: Manuel Pizarro (UCM) and Agustรญn Barragรกn (CEU UCH) will lead the session on sample collection and interpretation of lesions in poultry.
  2. nnnn
  3. Rapid Diagnosis: An innovative workshop on on-farm detection of Avian Influenza using LAMP technology, delivered by Roberia Rabelo from ALVEO TECHNOLOGIES.
  4. nnnn
  5. Histopathology and Microscopy: Elena Colombino will coordinate the interpretation of basic histopathology applied to poultry production.
  6. nnnn
  7. Egg Quality: A technical analysis of eggshell quality and methods for measuring improvements, led by experts from Alltech.
  8. n
nnnn

This approach, which will culminate in a dynamic “Poultry Quiz”, ensures that attendees receive not only up-to-date information, but also practical tools to improve the profitability and health of poultry operations.
